Start with a clean empty stable. Rubber mats can be left on the stable floor.
Initially five to six bales are required to bed down a 12ft x 12ft stable depending on the depth of bed required.
Open a bale at a time and with a shavings fork toss the shavings into the air so as to loosen and aerate, then spread evenly on the stable floor to the required depth.
To help prevent horses being cast when rolling build a bank of shavings along each wall.
You will require one to two bales per week to maintain your horses' bed.
